Severity
Each alarm in FOXMAN‑UN is assigned one out of five possible severities. A severity is indicated either by its name or by its color or by both.
Critical | Red | Local NE affected. Immediate operator action is required at the local site. |
Major | Orange | Local NE affected. Degradation of local transmission and/or failure of a redundant component. Operator action can be postponed. |
Minor | Yellow | Remote NE affected. Alarms in the corresponding far end equipment and/or AIS received in the local NE. Immediate operator action is required at the remote site. |
Warning | Blue | Status and “loop active” alarms. |
Indeterminate | Light blue | Used for unmanaged and not configured NEs. Not assigned as default severity for any of the NE alarms. |
An additional sixth severity exists for the purpose of inhibiting alarms. FOXMAN‑UN can be configured to either ignore these alarms completely (default configuration) or to treat them as alarms with a special severity. No alarm has this severity as default.
Off | Green | Alarm severity set to Off via Alarm Customisation and FOXMAN‑UN configured not to remove Off alarms. |
The default severity of each alarm can be modified by the user via the
Alarm Customisation on a global or NE basis or via the
HW view or unit view on a per unit / subunit basis.
The severity color is used in the
Alarm List, the
Alarm Summary and on maps.
In the Alarm List, cleared and not acknowledged alarms are shown in the color of their default severity. In the Alarm Summary, the counter for cleared alarms is shown in pink.
Symbols on maps are shown in the color for the highest severity of their currently active alarms. If there are no or only cleared alarms associated with a symbol, it is shown in green.
